Not necessarily the most user-friendly way to show your new collection. But you can see how it kind of works. Alakazam Label have twisted prints, t-shirts and more stuff – you can check out their wares here.
I like the fact that people are trying to make the tools that are out there work for them. That’s what it’s all about…
Normally I’m a bit hurried or hassled going around the supermarket, but on Saturday I decided to have a bit of a wander and look around the shelves to see what caught my eye. I even bought some of the things I thought were interesting. Here they are.
I’ll start with something I liked just because it looked lovely. It’s a classic bit of packaging that was just too nice not to have in the cupboard.
Next comes a limited edition product…
I don’t know if I want my beans bigger? Maybe I’d like them smaller? But any kind of Baked Bean innovation is good in my book.
After that I spotted these Chupa Chip Relax lollipops – they’re really small and in a box about the size of a pack of fags.
But it’s only when you flip the box that you realise that they’re lollys to help you stop smoking. They’ve even got an NHS stamp on them. They say:
“Chupa Chups Relax can replace the hand to mouth action lost when stopping smoking”
Which reads almost like if you stop smoking you get some kind of arm paralysis. But I’m sure that’s not the point.
And I’ve saved the best for last…
“Make mine a Builders” – a new tea brand. Which actually has lots of buildery stuff on the box, including this:
So they’re donating money to help people get into building. And helping you to find good builders.
But if you visit www.makemineabuilders.com you’ll see that it’s not just a box decoration thing. They actually worked with builders to formulate a blend of tea – and one that brews in 20s, so you get more time for teabreaks… It looks like the product is the brainchild of Elmwood Design. I don’t know why I like it, I just do.
I know I do one of these ‘ best things ever’ posts quite often. But when I make them I’m usually genuinely excited. And this is no exception. Fuzzwich.com have created a really simple tool for creating and sharing animations.
You don’t need to know anything to get going, it takes the most basic functions of something like flash and repackages them in a way that you can start using straightaway without any instructions. Here’s something I made in a few minutes with absolutely no reading of any instructions or anything (and believe me I’ve got practically zero skills in animation principles or tools) – it was really fast and satisfying to do, even if the results are a bit pony:
It’s only been out for a couple of weeks and it looks like they’ve got plans to do some stuff to it – but part of it’s charm is its roughness and simplicity so I hope they don’t over complicate it in any way.
Well not literally, although he could be. Although if he was he’d probably have Twittered about it. Visit http://www.gapingvoid.com/ for his latest bout of back-of-business-card cartoonism.
Toshio Iwai has made a load of cool audio widgety things. The thing I know best is Electroplankton on the Nintendo DS. But he’s done lots of other stuff too. I’ve just come across his latest device to hit the streets, Tenori-On, it’s a bit like this:
As a piece of design I really like it, especially when you see it’s double sided!!!
There’s a UK launch party for the thing in a couple of weeks with performances and DJs and stuff. It’s at Phonica in London (and I think there’s one in Manchester too, but I can’t find the details). More info on their last.fm page: http://www.last.fm/group/TENORI-ON
I could get quite needy for a thing like this. But it looks like it going to be about $1000 which is a lot for a plinky plonky toy…
Which reminds me. I’ve been meaning to have a bit of a letoff about this…
It’s a bit of Banksy stencil art on a wall in Brighton (on the side of the Prince Albert pub on Trafalger St if you care), but it’s been protected with a layer of bullet-proof perspex. Maybe I’m being a bit of a tit, but if you’re making a statement by using ‘da streetz’ as your canvas then it’s a bit fucked up to be having some kind of VIP treatment, isn’t it? I know Banksy didn’t request his ‘art’ be encased in this way…
Oh bollocks, by talking about it I’m helping to make it important. I’ll shut up.
I always get overexcited by nice type on house signs. Whenever I go to Europe I’m impressed by the layouts of their flat numbers and suchlike. They always look so, well, European, and sophisticated.
So when I was walking home in Brighton and I saw this (almost) nicely done house number. Even though it’s far from the standards you’d expect to see in Amsterdam or Zurich it is mounted nicely on perspex and someone had at least considered the design.
So I did a double take. Then I did a triple take. And it all fell apart in front of my eyes…
I love so many of these Polish Film Posters. I just like the way they’ve focussed on totally different things from the Hollywood versions. And the best thing is most of them are for sale, and they ship most places. Woo Hoo!
