iPhone Advertising Hits New Low

There I was reading an article about The Top 5 Myths About Yahoo! on Howstuffworks on my iPhone. I got to the bottom of page one, and clicked ‘read more’ like you do.

Then a new page launches and…

Holy fuck…

It is…

Noooooooooo…

It can’t be…

But it is…

THE POP UP AD IS BACK!!!

Bastards.

Here’s what the page looks like:

It’s a simple full-page 2-frame animation. It’s for a good-cause-style-website. But that doesn’t make it any better. It’s vile interruptive advertising of the worst sort. What really bugs me is that it’ll show loads of impressions and probably get a whole bunch of clickthroughs in the short term. But that doesn’t make it right.

Just say no!

Interestingly if you visit the same page on the web and click the read more link there’s no such ad…

New York Polaroids (From iPhone)

All I’m going to say is that I love Camera Bag. It’s an iPhone app that adds brilliant filters to the photos that come out of the shitty camera.

I know there’s something a bit overused and cheesy about Polaroid effects. But there’s something a bit nice about them too. I think the fact that it automatically creates a decent amount of white space around the image is not to be sniffed at.

To show the power of Camera Bag I’ve not touched them in iPhoto or Photoshop or anything. These are straight from the iPhone. It’s my favourite thing right now.

Be Like Lil’ Wayne iPhone App

I don’t know whether to laugh, cry or download the thing and have a go.

Wanna know what it does. Well it gives you…

iTunes

Here’s what they say:

iTunes

That’s the problem. It sorta sounds fun. If you can’t resist, get it here.

iPhone Accelerometer Turns Sadness into… More sadness…

Filmed on the Kodak Zi6 (on a train in poor light). I just loved the fact that the iPhone wouldn’t let dom be happy, no matter how hard he tried…

Amazing Geo-Flickr on iPhone

Photos near me

I just installed Exposure on my iPhone. It’s a great Flickr app for the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s got an amazing ‘near me’ feature. Using GPS it locates you and finds geo-tagged photos nearby.

I fired it up and almost fell off my chair when I saw a photo of the neighbours’ cat marked as 15.5m away. That’s pretty damn impressive.

iPhone as VJ / DJ Controller via Midi

I know someone who is holding out on getting an iPhone because he was a bit scathing about them when they first came out. He’s scared of being shown up as a fool and a traitor when he gets one.

This video is just another example of the kind of thing that becomes possible if he just swallowed his pride. Nik, it’s time. It really is.

And if that wasn’t enough, this video showing an iPhone controlling Ableton Live nearly made me wee with excitement:

More O2 iPhone Woes

From yesterday in Brighton:

Whoops!

It’s a bit of a shame because they’d got all the upgrade pricing and stuff sounding right. And the things they’re doing around encouraging re-use of old iPhones is nice too.
