Making A YouTube Band

I’ve done this as a plea for help

Probably inspired by fact that everything seems to be Rock Band right now; I want to make a page which pulls a random group of soloists from YouTube and forms them into a temporary band.

I’m almost certain something similar has been done before (see below) I just want to do it for amusement and learning - not to claim it as my idea.

Here’s my rather naive and ill-informed thoughts so far:

  1. I’m guessing this would need to be done using the YouTube API to pick up clips from 3 playlists.

  2. I currently have 3 playlists (guitars, drums and ‘other’) so the band always has one of each of the key instruments.

  3. Randomise functions are good.

  4. I’d love to have 3 simple buttons with pause / mute functions (allowing people to create crude arrangements with solos, etc.).

  5. If it’s possible to make the videos draggable so that they can be arranged  that would be sweet.

  6. If one really wanted to make it awesome one could do stuff like hooking the y-position of a video to the volume of the clip, couldn't one?

  7. And things like that...

But I’ve got no idea where to start

Anyone fancy giving me some advice / helping out? I’m happy to research all the clips and learn whatever I can be taught. And I'll try to repay the favour somehow?!?

With extreme apologies to http://bit.ly/2YvmO2 - which showed the joy of a 3 way YouTube guitar solo ages ago. Thanks to Flo at Dare for helping find the reference (and a couple of other interesting social music jams), you're a gent!)
